The report „Modeling Disaster and Climate Change” published by Lloyd’s of London concludes that climate change is a reality and must be included in all future schemes for modeling catastrophes. Thus, „due to the effects of climate change and the global insurance industry, companies specializing in specific catastrophe risk modeling must take into account factors such as the water and air temperature increases.”
We see increasingly often atmospheric phenomena in our country and the city of Constanta. Tuesday, several streets in the city of Constanta were flooded after an strong downpours which lasted about an hour. Road traffic was affected in some areas water reaching the cars doors. Other areas affected were Mamaia, Eforie Eforie North and South, and the city Ovidiu.
According to a press release of Autonomous County Water Constanta, the dispatch company received 33 complaints regarding street drains in Constanta, Mamaia Nord and Ovidiu.
Verasig Advice
Flood damage is covered by the mandatory home insurance policy (PAD), in the limit of 10,000 respectively 20,000 euros (depending on the type of construction), and the optional domestic policies for amounts that exceed these values.
Also, for vehicles, CASCO insurance typically covers the damages caused by floods. Drivers must nevertheless drive in flooded areas because they can trigger the exclusion clauses in contracts for CASCO.
